Bye 2018 because we have a lot going for us in 2019 as far as entertainment is concerned. 2019 is giving us a lot of exciting reasons to keep our mind off unnecessary things. So while we bid adieu to the shows and characters that filled our lives in 2018, here’s what we can look forward to in the brand new year, whether it’s on Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBO.
1. Game of Thrones
Of course, it was one of our biggest reasons the world has been waiting for 2019. The most watched TV show, one epic storyline and just one season to go. Needless to say, the wait for the finale has been extremely painful and the show is undoubtedly the most anticipated of the lot. We’re clueless what’s in store for the Starks, Lannisters, and Targaryens. What we do know is it’s going to be one helluva season and GOT will continue to be one of the most talked about and popular shows in the history of television.
2. The Umbrella Academy
Fans had a lot to be happy about when the two-volume comic book series, The Umbrella Academy by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s went on to become a Netflix series. It’s a mix of mystery, family drama, superhero stories, comedy and adventure. It’s the story of six estranged siblings who come together to save the world after the death of their adopted rich, industrialist father. A weird blend of many elements, this family drama has us hooked for some reason.
3. Jane The Virgin
The satirical romantic comedy left fans wondering what’s next when a character that was believed to be gone was brought back in the finale episode of the last season. Fans of this telenovela continue to wait to have all their questions answered.
Although the movie adaptation of Alan Moore’s Watchmen was something that just came and went without garnering much curiosity and popularity, Damon Lindelof is taking it to another level for the HBO TV show. Although the show will not follow the same path as the comic, Lindelof’s take on the post-superhero world seems to have caught the fancy of viewers who wait with bated breath for the story to unfold.
5. Good Omens
Up on the list of new arrivals is Good Omens, the adaptation of the fantasy classic by Neil Gaiman. A storyteller par excellence, his story about a demon and an angel, albeit an odd pair of friends, thwarting the apocalypse seems to be one of the most interesting plots for television viewers in recent times.
6. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
There was a wave of shock and surprise when Fox cancelled Brooklyn Nin-Nine, the most loved cop show. Despite a few days spent over the cancellation limbo, fans are happy that the show is returning in 2019 taking the excitement to a whole new high.
7. Stranger Things
And who can forget Stranger Things? A lot has happened at Hawkins in the past 2 seasons and there’s nothing that the kids can’t deal with despite the challenges that keep coming their way through incessant wormholes and alternate dimensions.
The 2019 line-up also includes Veep, True Detective, and the most awaited The Crown. Also pushing their way up the ladder are Big Little Lies and What We Do In The Shadows. With so much happening, we’re glad we are finally into 2019 that’s ready to host the biggest and the best in television history. Now that’s how we define entertainment, don’t we?
