People’s favorite Dwanye Johnson, a.k.a ‘The Rock’, was reportedly paid much more than co-star Emily Blunt. The duo, play lead roles in Disney’s upcoming film, Jungle Cruise.
Despite both being in the lead role, Dwayne was paid a whopping $13 million more than Emily Blunt’s pay. While Johnson has been paid $22 million to portray Frank, Blunt has been paid $9 million to portray ‘Lily’ in the movie. Figuratively speaking, no one’s going to argue when being paid $9 million for a job. However, the difference in pay is undeniable.
Why The Pay Gap ?
Dwayne Johnson is an unstoppable train when it comes to the box office. He is the second highest paid actor of 2018, standing at $1.5 billion. The highest paid actor of 2018 is his co-star from the Fast and Furious franchise, Vin Diesel who stands at $1.6 billion.
With back to back hits like the Fast and Furious series, Moana, and his infamous ‘Scorpion King’ it comes as no surprise that Johnson is paid handsomely for making an appearance, anywhere.
Jungle cruise co-star and Gloden Globes award winner, Emiy Blunt has wowed the world with her performance in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ and the thriller ‘A Quiet Place’. Reportedly, her film Mary Poppins is estimated to gross a whopping $200 million according to Hollywood Reporter.
While both actors are accomplished and talented in their own right, we guess the pay is decided by who brings in the most number of viewers. Given the worldwide fandom of ‘The Rock’, the producers must have believed this to be the right pay for him. However, the huge pay gap has sparked controversies and discussions regarding gender bias. Many are coming out to lash out at this outright display of pay difference among male and female co-stars in tinsel-town.
Oscar award winner Emma Stone recently discussed this in an interview.
In my career so far, I’ve needed my male co-stars to take a pay cut so that I may have parity with them. And that’s something they do for me because they feel it is what’s right and fair.Emma Stone
Pay Gap? Yes. Relationship Gap? No.
Despite the fact that a huge pay gap exists between the two, actors Dwayne and Emily were seen sharing a warm moment with the crew of Mary Poppins recently.
Taking to Instagram Johnson posted the picture of the gathering not forgetting to make light of himself in his caption, as usual.
Johnson, speaking of his meet with the Mary Poppins crew ,went on to write-
Tonight we loved, laughed (hard) & celebrated with tequila 🥃 with fine wine🍷with the cast of MARY POPPINS RETURNS.Dwayne Johnson
Great hang with @michaelseanbailey @emortimer @hhgarcia41 @jackwhitehall Ben Wishaw & Mark Bradshaw.
And of course, the woman of the hour who unfortunately has to put up with my spoonful of sugar and cheese all night long, Mary Poppins herself – Emily Blunty Blunt.
Love this crew. Good humans… all except the big, brown, bald tattooed fella.
It’s great to see that things like this don’t dampen relationships. As of now, we just look forward to better times for actors, in an ideally level playfield with fair pays. How fair are these pay gaps? Well, that’s another discussion altogether.
