The world’s favorite streaming giant, Netflix is rarely not in the midst of the action. From streaming mind blowing original content to making bellies all over the world hurt from laughter with their snarky twitter feed, they sure live up to their potential, whether online or offline.
Recently, the international streaming service made it a point to remind people how beneficial they are.

Netflix, has no chill

In what looked like a humorous jibe at the Golden Globes Award ceremony telecast, Netflix took a moment to remind us of the fact that, thanks to them, we don’t need to deal with nasty intrusive commercials while watching our favourite shows.

The snarky comment was interpreted in quite a few ways though, and Twitter was abuzz with tongue in cheek humour. Here are a few reactions:

Like this wasn’t enough, leading actor of the series Michael Douglas took home the award for ‘Best Lead Actor in a comedy series’. Here’s what he said on accepting the award

Streaming has made television much more acceptable to film people. That’s why you’re seeing so many film actors go in…

That’s why now you’re seeing situations like The Kominsky Method, a half-hour comedy which can be 25 minutes long or 40 minutes long.

You can say anything you want. There are no commercials. It’s as close as you can get to a short film. For me, at this point in my career and at my age, this is fantastic. I love it.

In truth, like Douglas’ remarks, streaming indeed has changed the platform for many actors. This years Golden Globes ceremony highlighted not just the change in platform, but also the change in diversity in tinseltown. Host, Sandra Oh made quite the point in her opening act of the ceremony.

I said ‘yes’ to the fear of being on this stage tonight because I wanted to be here to look out at this audience and witness this moment of change.

Sandra Oh

Among the other attractions of the ceremony , Lady Gaga bagged an award for ‘Best Original Song’ for the motion picture Shallow. Host, Sandra Oh won an award for best performance by an actress in a television series drama.

Golden Globes 2019: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

What’s a Hollywood award night without a bit of drama? If you are a little late on catching up with the big night, we bring to you the high points of the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards- jibes, jabs, fun, pun, wins et al.

Oh Sandra!

Sandra Oh, who had already impressed us much with her impeccable choice of evening gown, stunned us with her opening monologue. This is what she said in honor of the achievements of the extremely talented entertainers present in the audience who welcomed her words with cheer and applause, “I said yes to the fear of being on this stage tonight because I wanted to be here to look out into this audience and witness this moment of change. I see you, all these faces of change. And now, so will everyone else.”

And that’s not all; she even took a dig at the ‘Asian’ leads of Ghost in the Shell and Aloha — Scarlett Johansson and Emma Stone, though none of them are Asian. As soon as she said, “[“Crazy Rich Asians”] is the first studio film with an Asian American lead since “Ghost in the Shell” and “Aloha,” Emma was quick to respond with an “I’m Sorry!” from the crowd.

And did we say, she made history? The woman clearly stole the show, not just for her talent and wit, but also for being the first person of Asian descent to host the Golden Globes and the first woman of Asian descent to win more than one. Here’s to the woman who’s not forgotten her roots and who is the first woman of Asian descent to win a Golden Globe for best actress in a TV drama after 39 years (Yoko Shimada won in this category for Shogun in 1980).

Flu Shots For All

There was chaos in the audience when an army of workers went to the stars with needles to give away flu shots. “Roll up your sleeves, Hollywood, you’re all getting… flu shots,” said Oh and Samberg. With LMFAO’s rap anthem ‘Shots’ blaring in the background and several vocal anti-vaccine personalities around, this was quite a cheeky move.

Jokes Gone Awry

Andy Samberg’s roast while welcoming presenter Chris Pine on stage failed to amuse the man himself. Here’s what Andy had said, “Please welcome Chris Pine and his busted face!”

After poking fun at Les Moonves, Samberg introduced the cast of The Big Bang Theory. This immensely talented bunch earning the fattest paychecks on television with a 12-year long and successful run didn’t look particularly happy with the jab.

“Now here with a surprising, unrehearsed takedown of Les Moonves is the cast of The Big Bang Theory,” Samberg had said referring to the CBS chief who’s been accused of sexual harassment. Although the joke was welcomed with laughs by the audience, the Big Bang Theory stars ignored it with a pause before going on to present the categories.

And The Big Wins

Among the many categories and prestigious wins, we’ve handpicked a few.

The stars never fail to surprise us with their fashion game. From sleek to elaborate, their styles were a departure from last year’s all black dress code to support the Time’s Up movement. Here’s a quick roundup of our favorite sartorial moments from the red carpet at the 76th Golden Globe awards. Take a look.

Sandra Oh

Among the many style stars that were born, a few stunned us beyond words. Revving up the heat at The Beverly Hilton was the host for the evening, Sandra Oh. A vision in white, her asymmetrical Atelier Versace gown made quite the statement fashionistas would look up to. Clearly, white was the new black.

Halle Berry

The glamorous star chose an outfit from Zuhair Murad’s Fall 2018 collection that hugged her perfectly toned body well. The see-through burgundy gown with striped pattern and a plunging neckline made her look like a diva.

Rachel Brosnahan

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel of Amazon broke away from convention choosing a bright yellow gown that made her look absolutely pretty and marvelous. The carpet-grazing number highlighted her slim waist beautifully. Simple yet stylish, she sure knew how to nail the red carpet look.

Penelope Cruz

The stunning actress made heads turn in her phenomenal Ralph & Russo dress. It looked black, though the fabric shifted colors to shades of purple and looked straight out of space. A starry gown befitting the star that she is, Penelope wowed everyone in her pearlescent floral jacquard ensemble.

Irina Shayk

The low-cut gold gown she wore made her look chic and elegant. The sheer, embellished golden gown did full justice to her supermodel figure. Flaunting her long legs through the high slit, she stood tall in soaring golden sandals.

Emily Blunt

Taking Irina’s metallic trend forward, Emily Blunt dazzled the crowds in a silver cut-out frock with a textured hemline. She complemented the elegant sleeveless Alexander McQueen number with strappy heels and diamond earrings. Gorgeous in her icy look, she portrayed the classiest version of the ‘naked’ dress.

Emma Stone

The pretty actress absolutely slayed the red carpet in a long-sleeved Louis Vuitton dress. The pattern on the dress was created using 63,000 twisted glass tubes, making the ensemble a sheer work of art. 30 embroiderers have put in 800 hours to create this striking masterpeice. As an ambassador the French label, Emma looked breathtakingly beautiful in her glittery look. A cylindrical handbag, diamond drop earrings and metallic rose gold eye shadow perfected her red carpet look.

Lady Gaga

Dressed in a classic Valentino Couture gown, Lady Gaga clearly stole the show. The singer and actress is on a styling spree these days and her choices never fail to surprise us. Her off-the-shoulder periwinkle gown was chosen to pay homage to July Garland who had worn something similar in the 1954 version of A Star Is Born. Her Tiffany’s Aurora necklace, a custom piece with 300 diamonds and a 20 carat pear-shaped stone in the center took, Gaga’s carpet look to a whole new level.

Regardless of how many of them won the awards, quite a few style icons were born on this starry night.
